Junior Achievement Award (JAA)

Dear Parents,

The Junior Achievement Award (JAA) was conceived to “encourage personal and collective responsibilities in our pupils”. In view of the tremendous benefits, it is strongly encouraged that the P4 pupils participate in this programme.

Your child will be briefed on the necessary information to help him/ her complete the activities but the following will help to provide an overview of the processes which will facilitate parents to help guide their child towards completing the objectives.

Step 1. (Refer to pg. 5 of the booklet). Select your 5 domains (3 from Community Service, Outdoor Adventure, Internationalisation or Family, and 2 from Sports, Aesthetics or Others). Talk and discuss with your child the areas where he/ she is able to fulfil. For detail information on the various requirements and criteria, refer to the booklet (p.g 6 for Community Service, p.g. 10 for Outdoor Adventure … etc). The P4s should be aiming for the ‘Caterpillar’ standard.

Step 2. Discuss with your child how he/ she is going to carry out the activities. Make this an opportunity to talk about organization, leadership and responsibilities. Get your child to lead in the planning and organising of the activity.

Step 3. When the activity is carried out, fill in the space with the necessary information. Referring to the relevant pages in the booklet (e.g. p.g. 8 for Community Service, p.g. 12 for Outdoor Service … etc),. your child will have to include evidences to prove that he/ she has completed the domain/ skill. This can be ascertained in terms of photographs, testimonials, maps … etc

Step 3. Once completed, return the booklet, together with the attached evidences and submit it to his/ her Form Teacher. Your child’s Form Teacher will verify the information and complete p.g. 3 and 4 with your child. The dateline for the P4s is Week 3 of Term 4 (by 1 Oct). All submission must be completed by then.

I hope your child will have a wonderful and enriching learning journey ahead.

Warm welcome after the June Holidays

It is the start of a new semester and a warm welcome to all P4 pupils. We hope the pupils had a well-rested and wonderful holiday and they are now ready for the next half of the year.

Here is a list of activities and events lined up for Term 3:
(a) NAPFA Test (30 July)
(b) Racial Harmony Day (21 July)
(c) Dragon Boating (from 24 August to 2 September)
Circulars for the above events will be given out when it is closer to the dates. Please refer to them and the school calendar for details.

Joining our level for this semester are three teachers:
Ms Tan Ying Chin

If your child will be taught by any of these teachers, you will receive an introduction letter from them soon. Meantime, they will be guided and oriented by other P4 teachers to ensure there will be minimal disruption to the classes. Your support and cooperation will be important in helping us to provide the optimal environment for your child to study in.

With that, I wish your child a fruitful and enriching term ahead.

To Nanyang With Love - Art Exhibition

The Nanyang Alumni Association, Nanyang Primary and Nanyang Girls’ High School are going to organise a fund raising art event for Nanyang Primary Indoor Sports Hall and other construction projects. The art exhibition will be held at The ARTrium, MICA Building from 25th to 28th March 2010.

Other than having art work for sale at the exhibition, there is also a ‘Birthday Calendar’ available for sale at $50 each. This calendar is not a conventional time-bound calendar. It is one that allows you or your child to note down the birthdays of loved ones. The calendar is filled with lovely graphics and contains pictures of artworks painstakingly created by pupils and teachers of Nanyang Primary school as well as by the Nanyang Schools Alumni Association. As such, this calendar will serve as a precious momento for your child, even after he/she leaves the school.

Below are pictures to provide you with a glimpse of what this ‘Birthday Calendar’ looks like. We really hope you can support us in this fund raising art event by purchasing a copy of the calendar.

To show your support, just fill up the Order Form which will be given together with a letter by tomorrow. Payments to be made by cheque made payable to 'Nanyang Primary School'. Generous donations above the listed price of $50 is most appreciated and we really thank you for your support!
